To Be Successful You Need To Set Action Goals

by tim on August 1, 2011

When setting goals, most people only focus on the end result they want. This works for some people, but others may find that they consistently fail to accomplish their goals. If you find yourself falling into the latter group instead of the former, try changing how you set your goals to see if it helps you to be more successful.

Add Action Goals To Your End Result Goals

By focusing on the end result you desire when trying to achieve a goal, you can easily fall into the trap of losing sight of what you need to do to accomplish your goal. Adding an action goal to your end result goal can help you to stay focused on what needs to be done. An action goal consists of one or more actions that need to be taken on a consistent basis to achieve your end result goal.

Examples Of End Result Goals And The Action Goals You Can Add To Them

A common end result goal that many people have is to find a great relationship. The problem is, they do not take any action to bring about this end result that they desire. They just sit around waiting for something to happen instead of taking action to make it happen.

There are all kinds of action goals that you can add to this type of end result goal. You can set an action goal of going out once a week to a social gathering to try and meet more people. You could also set an action goal to strike up a conversation with one person a day that you find attractive. If you are not satisfied with your personal appearance, you can set action goals for eating right and exercising that will help you to feel better about yourself. A happier person is a more attractive person to potential romantic partners.

This ties in with my other example of an end result goal, a weight loss goal to lose a certain number of pounds of weight. You can add an action goal of eating a specific ratio of good food to bad food, and an action goal of exercising 30 minutes every day.

Action goals can be added to virtually any end result goal. It is a quick and easy way to improve your success rate in achieving your goals and should be an integral part of your goal setting strategy.
